What was the challenge?

The Digiato project came with its set of challenges. These challenges involved in-depth analysis of user data, including user behavior and preferences, along with conducting interviews with various stakeholders and users to gather essential feedback. Crafting relevant and effective survey questions and selecting the most suitable methodology for advancing the UX process were among the primary hurdles. Additionally, aligning the UX improvements with the unique requirements and high standards of a renowned tech news brand like Digiato added complexity to the project.

SOLUTION

What did we do to fix the problem?

To address the challenges in the Digiato project, we implemented a multi-faceted strategy. Firstly, we invested significant time in crafting well-structured interview questions for stakeholders and users to ensure we obtained valuable insights. Our choice of the Double Diamond design thinking method was instrumental in propelling the project forward, enabling us to thoroughly explore, define, develop, and deliver effective UX improvements. The decision to use the Double Diamond method was due to its suitability for dealing with complex problems and its structured approach for in-depth user-centered design. Additionally, we conducted extensive data analysis, making the results readily accessible for review at the end of this case study. This approach allowed us to address the challenges effectively and provide an optimized user experience for Digiato.

Design Process

We chose to employ the Double Diamond method in our project because it offers a systematic and holistic approach to UX design. It ensures thorough problem exploration and innovative idea generation in the first diamond, followed by effective solution development and validation in the second diamond. This method enables us to prioritize user needs, foster collaboration among team members, and ultimately deliver user-centered solutions that drive project success.

Stakeholder Interview

Our first step to keep the path on the same page with stakeholders and find their goals and needs was the stakeholder interview so I totally have prepared 19 questions based on my goals, according to my first workshop with stakeholders. I have got customized my questions for each person based on their position. After interviewing and synthesizing the result, I realized their expectations of the project.

  • 1. What are the vision of your company?
  • 2. What was the most important reason to start this project?
  • 3. What worries you about this project?
  • . . .

Competitive Analysis

As we know people usually check the limited number of blogs to catch their daily news so the next step was to check the most famous alternative or competitor who works on the market. I have used the SWOT method to check the competitor because it can quickly reveal product issues and determine a course of action by evaluating the internal and external factors.

Analytics And Heatmaps

As previously introduced in Digito's overview, their website receives over 10 million monthly visits. To proceed cautiously, we opted to analyze analytics and heatmaps, aiming to gather quantitative data about their product and select key performance indicators (KPIs) of significance.

Scroll maps represent data in the form of a spectrum of colors showing how far to the bottom of a page do users navigate.
Confetti heat maps give an indication of mouse clicks represented as spots of different colors.

User Persona

The persona used in the project represents a user, embodying characteristics and behaviors typical of our target audience. We included this persona to create a relatable and user-focused context for the case, allowing us to make design and usability decisions aligned with real user needs and preferences. By personifying our user, we ensure that the case is grounded in a user-centered approach, guiding our design choices to ultimately enhance the user experience of the Digiato website.
